A daylong fire in downtown Greeneville Wednesday destroyed a three-story building that housed a restaurant, burned a second building and threatened a third. Firefighters responded to the downtown blaze after receiving a 911 cal from someone who saw flames from the back side of Chang Thai Restaurant on Depot Street. Another chapter in the story that will not die on Dailies - Tri-Cities Christian Schools officials say their Lynn View Campus — formerly Lynn View Middle School — is no longer for sale. School Administrator Pat Yelton hand delivered letters Wednesday morning to Sullivan County Mayor Steve Godsey and County Attorney Dan Street notifying the county that the property “is no longer available for purchase.†Asked if the move could mean TCCS plans to reopen a school at the site, Yelton said no. She said she could provide no further details. I’m sure there will be more on this story shortly - just keep an eye on the Times News and the Dailies for the follow-up.
In other area news, four Hawkins County students were treated and released following a Wednesday morning wreck, while their school bus driver was cited for failure to yield, Osheene Massey, a Sullivan County Jail inmate awaiting trial in a Kingsport double-murder case, allegedly tried to kill fellow inmate and convicted murderer Joey Goins using a razor stuck on the end of a toothbrush, three people were arrested in Erwin Tuesday after a 12-year-old girl was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning after drinking liquor supplied by a 61-year-old man, and Surgoinsville Middle School eighth-grader Kristen Hale’s book “Papaw and Me†was singled out for special recognition and national distribution by publisher Nationwide Learning Inc.
